The Missouri Symphony: Romantic Echoes: Rachmaninoff 2

  • Missouri Theatre 203 South 9th Street Columbia, MO (map)

Wilbur Lin, Music Director
Jacob Aaron Schnitzer, Associate Conductor

A program of depth and resonance, Romantic Echoes bridges three centuries of orchestral expression. Anna Clyne’s Restless Oceans opens with visceral energy and contemporary edge. Rising star pianist Ying Li takes center stage in Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, a work of sweeping lyricism and enduring popularity. The program concludes with Symphony No. 1 by Johannes Brahms — years in the making and often regarded as “Beethoven’s Tenth,” bringing the festival to a close with depth and gravitas. From Clyne’s post-Romantic expressive reach, through Rachmaninoff’s melodic eloquence, to Brahms’s monumental structure and Romantic intensity, this is Romanticism.
