Sitting in a box of nostalgic treasures in my childhood home is a flip book of the 1935 Walt Disney animated film 'The Band Concert' which depicts a concert in the park, led by Maestro Mickey Mouse, that goes awry when a tornado violently swirls the band into the sky. Patriots on Parade in Boston Common (wearing red socks) is something like this concert turned natural disaster. Charles Ives, John Phillip Sousa, mobs of people in my downtown Boston, an eternity of upbeats, Karl King, a red-headed cellist running to keep up, the Shepherd tone, a topsy turvy Soldier's March, songs I sing to my cat, the venerable American March tradition…
